Step by Step Instructions for adding your dogs to the Online Pedigree System

Thanks to Todd Pounds for writing this up.
Might want to print these instructions out and have them beside you for reference.

1) First enter the “Online Pedigree System” by clicking on the “Online Pedigree” link on the right of the home page. Search to see if there is any information on the dog that you will be entering. Just say you have a Kemmer or Streak bred dog that you are about to enter. More than likely some of its info is going to be already in the database. Start with the SIRE’S “side of the family.” Search for the Sire then his Sire and Dam and their Sire and Dam and so on to see how many, if any, are already listed on your dogs pedigree. Make a note of the dogs that are listed on his “side of the family” because you will not have to enter these dogs. Next check to see what, if any, information is listed on the DAM and her “side of the family.” Make a note of these dogs that are listed. The ones that are not listed, along with your dog, is what you will have to enter to “associate” them as a “family.” Now that you have that done exit out of the “Pedigree Search” by clicking on the “Online Pedigree” link again.

2) Click the LOGIN link. Here you will have to enter your User ID and password. If you have not registered with the "Online Pedigree System" do that first. This can be the same ID and password that you use for the SDC web site but you have to register it with here too. If you have not registered as a member of the "Online Pedigree System" you will not be able to add to the pedigree database. After logging in you will come to the “Main Menu.” Click the ADD link to get started.

3) Add A New Record: Enter your dog’s information on this page. Enter as much of the info as you like but you HAVE TO enter his name, registration number, breed, sex, and his Sire & Dam along with their registration numbers. If your dog or the sire/dam is not registered then enter ** as the number. When you have completed the form click on the ADD RECORD link. Now you have just “associated” your dog with his Sire and Dam. The next page confirms what you have just entered. If you made a mistake click “MODIFY” or if not, click the “ADD” link. These links are located on the bottom of that page.

4) Now if your dog’s Sire and Dam were already listed in the “Online Pedigree System” with a full pedigree you have completed your dog’s pedigree. Your dog will show up in about 24 hours when it gets entered into the system. You are finished. Click LOG OFF and enjoy the rest of SDC. If only a few or none of your dog’s “family” was found in your “Pedigree Search” in Step 1 go to Step 5.

5) Next, you will enter the dogs that WERE NOT found in Step 1. Start with the Sire’s “side of the family”. Enter the dog closest to the last dog you entered and it’s sire and dam just as you did in Step 3. (Example: if your dog’s Sire wasn’t found, enter the Sire with his registration number and his Sire & Dam along with their registration numbers. Enter the Dam with her registration number and her Sire & Dam along with their registration numbers.) Continue Step 3 and 4 to enter all the dogs that were not found in your Step 1 search. Always entering the dog not found with its Sire and Dam. That is how you “associate” each dog to the other. When you have entered all the dogs in your dog’s pedigree that WERE NOT found in your Step 1 search, you will have completed all of their “associations.” Your dog will appear with a full pedigree after we do the next update to the Online pedigree database. Click LOG OFF and you are done.

If you have pictures of any of the dogs that you just entered you can send them to Lonetree (lonetree@sqdog.com) and he will add them to the pedigree.

I know that this was lengthy and maybe I have made this clear enough for each of you to understand. If you have any questions email me, Reddog, or Lonetree. Between the three of us maybe we can give you an answer so that you can get your dogs listed for others to see.
