    Fried Green Maters

Well, I had a storm come thru last sunday, laid a tree on my house, we gonna recover from that but the really bad news is it laid a tree over 6 of my tomato plants, they were full of green ones, i couldnt stand the thought of them going to waste. So i picked em and been making fried green tomatoes, when i was younger, I didnt care if they ever got ripe. But now i got a rule , cant fry one till i pick the first ripe one . Well, they a common thing here in Mississippi, but for folks that live in areas they not common, you missing a treat. If you want to try them, pick the maters that are solid green, that the best. here is what i do with them.!!! slice the tomatoe top and bottom off, kinda core out the top. cut in 1/2 top to bottom. lay flat side down and slice about 1/4 in thick pour corn starch in ziplock bag, add maters, shake to coat well. pour buttermilk and egg in bowl, mix well, add mater slices to coat. mix 1/2 Sr flour and 1/2 SR corn meal to bag put corn starch coated, dipped in buttermilk/ egg into flour/cornmeal mixture and coat well. fry in vegetable oil, or what you have till golden brown at 350 degrees, remove form oil when brown, season with your favorite cajun seasoning, or salt and pepper. We really eat them often in season, hope you enjoy them
  2. If I was in the market, the one with dot in middle of head, be my choice for sure
  3. Not ready to buy boots yet, but anybody here ever try the Dryshod brand boot, they priced little under Lacrosse. I am not looking for cheaper, but rather better👍 I am terrible on boots, never had a pair last full 3 years, most don't last 2 full years!!!
  4. Oops, I hate the Alpha also for same reason, the ones I have are the Aerohead Lacrosse, the top of boot flares in back to make putting on and off easier, has a strap to pull tight after putting on, but I never tighten it These boots are really light at also Thanks for catching that hillbilly, and come spring, yours will get looked at, maybe sooner

  6. Dave, I am terrible on boots, wear them out fast, between Oct 1 and May 1, i spend over 100 days in boots, sometimes 1/2, other times all day I require a boot to be non lace, 100% waterproof and comfortable on feet, and provided good traction on All terrain. I have NEVER had a pair last more than 2 full seasons. You can forget, leather or or cordura to provide water proof!!! That leaves rubber or Neoprene. I love the old Lacrossee for durability and waterproof, but they a real pain to get on and off due to the ankle tight fit. They hard to pull off and if you ever step over top in water, dang near have to cut off. Neoprene boots are 100% waterproof, light weight, but are not as resistant to briars, I bought a pair of the Lacrosse Alpha Snake boots, not for snakes but to be more resistant to being torn by briars, which we have plenty of. The pair i have now is on its 3rd season, they look rough, and the neoprene has pulled away from rubber forcing me to patch it, however i think they will make it thru turkey season May1. Then i will have to buy a new pair. They have served me better than any other boot i have owned so far and have met all my requirements. I would be willing to pay more for boots that would last longer, but have resigned myself to the fact that I can tear up the best of them

  8. This recipe will make even big fox squirrels very tender 4-5 squirrels cut up in pieces dry well, roll in buttermilk or egg wash Roll in flour seasoned with what you like (Cajun, cavenders, Mortons season all ect) Brown on both sides over medium heat, brown only, not until done!!! Put pieces on a plate that will fit inside of your crock pot. It ok to stack pieces if necessary. Put 1 inch water bottom of crock pot then find small saucer that will fit in bottom, place plate of squirrels on top of saucer. Idea is to steam the squirrels, not let come in contact with water. Put setting on high, leave for 2 hrs-. After 1 hr, batter will be gummy if touched, after 2 hrs it will be just like KFC original recipe. Serve with what ever you like.
